IPv6 Dual Stack

Our Layer 3 switches and routers provide comprehensive support for IPv6. These products support the full implementation of IPv6 networking, and include two methods to help you to transition smoothly from IPv4 to IPv6.

The method shown above is called Dual Stack. When the switch or router has been configured as a dual stack system, it has both a 128-bit IPv6 address and a 32-bit IPv4 address, and can communicate both with nodes running only IPv4, and with nodes running only IPv6.

IPv6 Tunneling

Allied Telesis Layer 3 switches and routers provide comprehensive support for IPv6. These products support the full implementation of IPv6 networking, and include two methods to help you to transition smoothly from IPv4 to IPv6.

The method shown above is called tunneling, which allows IPv6 packets to be sent across an existing IPv4 network infrastructure. This is a good choice for early adopters using IPv6 in their LAN. Tunneling consists of encapsulating IPv6 packets within IPv4.
